Taxis tomorrow (17/2): Drivers’ strike in Attica through Thursday

Nationwide, taxis will not operate on Tuesday and Wednesday – What drivers are demanding

Newsroom February 16 04:40

The Attica Taxi Drivers’ Union has announced a new three-day strike. Specifically, Attica will be without taxis on Tuesday 17/2, Wednesday 18/2, and Thursday 19/2, while nationwide, taxis will not operate on Tuesday 17/2 and Wednesday 18/2.

According to the president of SATA, Thymios Lymberopoulos, once the bill is submitted, taxi drivers will call an open-ended strike.

What taxi drivers are demanding:

  1. Electrification – No forced transition.
  2. Clear regulatory framework for taxis vs. chauffeur-driven private vehicles (E.I.X.).
  3. Unfair competition – Lack of regulation for multinationals.
  4. Access for occupied taxis to special traffic lanes (bus lanes).
  5. Taxation – An end to the presumptive, excessive tax burden.
  6. Omnibus bill (withdrawal/revision).

As SATA’s president has stated, “The Ministry of Transport does not listen, does not engage in dialogue, and does not make corrections. It simply lies and imposes. The strike actions of Attica’s taxi drivers are a one-way street of resistance against:

  • the degradation of the profession,
  • hasty lawmaking,
  • political arrogance that treats taxi drivers as given and silent.”
