Olympiacos – Virtus Bologna 109-77: Returned to winning ways with an out-of-this-world performance

Out-of-this-world Olympiacos beat Virtus 109-77 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF)

Newsroom February 6 09:44

The game at SEF turned into a never-ending party with Olympiacos as the protagonist and… Virtus as the extra, as the team from Piraeus prevailed with an emphatic +32 (109-77).

After the first quarter, in which Virtus came out strong, Olympiacos then dominated, both with its defense and with its impressive offensive execution.

This result improved Olympiacos’ record to 17-9, while Virtus dropped to 12-15.

Olympiacos – Virtus Bologna: The game

Olympiacos did not start well and with Jallow causing damage (9 pts), the score became 8-12 at the 4th minute. Vezenkov’s rise in form helped Olympiacos take the lead shortly after (16-14, 6’), but Edwards reached 8 points to make it 16-19.

Two quick three-pointers by Dorsey gave Olympiacos the solution, while Vezenkov’s 10th point shaped the 24-23 score at the end of the quarter.

Virtus stayed close for a bit longer (31-27, 12’), but from that point on there was only one protagonist: Olympiacos. Fournier found his touch, the defense tightened even more, and with a partial 18-1 run the score became 49-28 at the 16th minute.

The situation did not change afterward, as even though Virtus managed to score, the difference did not shrink, with the half eventually closing at 61-34.

Olympiacos never took its foot off the gas, with the lead continuing to grow, surpassing +30 (70-40, 23’). The quarter ended with the impressive 89-50 and the rest of the game seemed (and was) a mere formality. Final score 109-77 and victory for Olympiacos.

THEY WON BECAUSE… They didn’t allow Virtus to catch its breath, both with defensive pressure and with their offensive execution.
MADE THE DIFFERENCE… Sasha Vezenkov. The Olympiacos star finished with 20 points, along with 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal.
WORTHY SUPPORT… Tyler Dorsey, who finished with 18 points.
COULD HAVE DONE BETTER… Carsen Edwards, who scored 11 points, but on 4/10 shooting from the field and 1/4 free throws.
DEFEATED BUT… Like fine old wine, Daniel Hackett with 14 points.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FIRST ROUND… Olympiacos had escaped Bologna at Christmas with a 94-97 win.

Quarter scores: 24-23, 61-34, 89-50, 109-77
