For its part, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated, through its spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, in a message to the Associated Press, that the individual who was shot was carrying a weapon with two magazines and that the situation “remains fluid.” DHS also released a photograph of a handgun which, according to authorities, was found in the individual’s possession.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security published a photo of a handgun that it says was found at the scene of the shooting.

Following the gunfire, an enraged crowd gathered at the scene, shouting insults at the federal agents, calling them “cowards,” and demanding that they leave.

Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that the victim’s only prior contact with law enforcement involved traffic code violations.

“We believe he was a lawful gun owner, with a permit to carry,” the police chief said of the man who was shot by federal agents on Saturday.

In Minnesota, gun laws allow the open carry of a handgun, provided the individual has a valid permit.

The 37-year-old, a nurse by profession, was an employee of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

At ICE’s press conference, officials stated that the victim was armed and reacted violently toward the agents, who took security measures and shot him.

In a new video, the 37-year-old is seen attempting to protect a woman whom ICE agents push and throw into the street. They spray him at close range with pepper spray, and he falls onto the woman in an effort to protect her. He is then attacked by 10 agents, who arrive from as far as a full city block away. There is an important detail in this video: at the 40-second mark, a man wearing a gray jacket takes the legally owned weapon from the 37-year-old and leaves the scene. Immediately afterward, the shots are fired.
