The ECB President walked out while Howard Lutnik was speaking out against the EU

Newsroom January 22 05:20

Christine Lagarde’s move to walk out of a dinner at the Davos during a speech by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, while he was criticizing Europe.

According to Reuters, sources familiar with the matter said the result of this development was that the hosts had to cancel the event before the dessert.

Sharp criticism in Europe

Specifically, the European Central Bank president walked out during a period of intense criticism of Europe by Lutnik, which sparked a backlash at the dinner on Tuesday night, one of the sources briefed on what happened said.

It was noted that the dinner was hosted by BlackRock CEO Larry Fink as co-chair of the World Economic Forum for all the forum’s main members, along with heads of state and other officials, a person invited to the event said.

Two hundred people were invited to the dinner. Fink ended the dinner before dessert after the taunting incident as people were leaving, one of the sources said.

The ECB declined to comment on the report. The U.S. Commerce Department and the World Economic Forum did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
