Reza Pahlavi thanked Trump for supporting the people of Iran: ‘He is the leader of the free world’

The son of Iran's last monarch called on European leaders to "follow Trump's example", while rumours are circulating about his upcoming visit to Washington

Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last monarch, has thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his support of the Iranian people and for warning that the United States could “strike” Iran in the event of a violent crackdown on protests.

In a post on X on Friday, Pahlavi said, “I want to thank the leader of the free world, President Trump, for reaffirming his promise to hold the regime accountable.” He also urged European leaders to “follow his example, break their silence, and act more decisively on behalf of the people of Iran.”

Pahlavi, who has repeatedly called on Iranians to protest, said that “millions of Iranians demanded their freedom” during demonstrations on Thursday. However, there are no reliable or independently verified estimates of the number of participants.

Trump has expressed support for Pahlavi but has ruled out meeting with him for the time being. Speaking on The Hugh Hewitt Show on Thursday, Trump said that while Pahlavi “is a good man,” he does not believe it would be appropriate to meet with him at this time. “I’ve watched him, and he seems like a good man,” Trump said, adding, “But I’m not sure it would be appropriate right now as president. We need to let everybody out and see who emerges.”
