Ukrainians hit Russian oil and gas units with Storm Shadow missiles – Video

Targeting the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region - The port of Temriuk in flames after a drone attack

Newsroom December 25 08:18

Ukrainian forces have struck a series of oil and gas facilities in Russia with Storm Shadow missiles and Ukrainian-made long-range drones, Ukrainian officials said.

Ukraine has in the past used British-made missiles to target Russian industrial units involved in Russia’s war.

The Ukrainian General Staff said that Ukrainian air forces used Storm Shadow cruise missiles to hit the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in the Rostov region.

“Multiple explosions were recorded. The target was hit,” a Ukrainian General Staff post on Telegram said, clarifying that the refinery is one of the largest oil product supply facilities in southern Russia and that it supplies diesel and aviation fuel to Russian forces in Ukraine.

Ukrainian security services SBU said Ukrainian-made long-range drones hit oil tanks at the Russian port of Temyuk in Krasnodar Region and a gas processing plant in Orenburg, southwestern Russia.

The Orenburg plant is the largest of its kind in the world and is located 1,400 km from the Ukrainian border.

Russian authorities in the Krasnodar region said two tanks went up in flames in the port of Temyuk after a drone attack. The flames covered an area of 2,000 square kilometers, according to a post by Krasnodar’s operational headquarters on Telegram.

Ukraine’s general staff also said Ukrainian forces struck an air base in the Russian city of Kakop, in the North Caucasus.

Kyiv has stepped up attacks on Russian refineries and other energy infrastructure in Russia since August, seeking to hit Moscow’s oil revenues, a major source of funding for Russia’s war in Ukraine.
