The Cretan arrested in Kalyvia with a Kalashnikov and silenced pistols had strangled his girlfriend while he was still a minor

He had been jailed as a juvenile for strangling his girlfriend, had escaped and was arrested again with weapons - Now he was arrested again, after the discovery of a stolen car with a Kalypso rifle in Kalyvia - He is believed to have been planning a murder

Newsroom December 9 02:44

The Cretan man convicted in 2006 of murdering his girlfriend, whom he strangled when she was still a minor, is the man arrested in Kalyvia, after a stolen car full of Kalyvia’s Kalashnikovs, silenced pistols, and cans of petrol were found. He is a man with a heavy criminal past who has repeatedly been in the hands of authorities for homicide, escape, weapons, rape, and domestic violence.

The case was uncovered when the so-called “Greek FBI” received a tip about drug trafficking in the Kalyvia area. Officers who attended the scene located a Ford Fiesta car, which was found to be stolen. Upon inspection inside the vehicle, three Kalashnikovs, pistols with silencers, cans of gasoline, gloves, and helmets were found, findings that led to the assessment that a murderous act was being prepared.

The ensuing investigation led to the identification of a man from Crete as the person who had stolen the car. It was revealed that this man had first been jailed in 2006 for manslaughter, as, according to police sources, he had strangled his girlfriend when she was a minor. He had been convicted for that act and was serving a prison sentence.

However, at a later time he managed to escape, resulting in a wanted notice being issued for him. When he was located again by the police, in his possession were found – again – a Kalashnikov and other weapons, evidence that had already by then established his profile as a particularly dangerous man closely associated with heavy weaponry.

After his release from prison, the same man did not cease to concern the authorities, this time for cases of rape and domestic violence, adding new serious charges to his criminal record. Police sources point out that the totality of the cases against him demonstrates a consistently violent and dangerous profile.

In today’s Kalyvia case, officers are investigating whether the heavy weaponry, gasoline cans, gloves, and helmets are linked to the preparation of a “contract of death” or some other form of targeted killing. Police reports indicate that the arrested man was allegedly preparing for murder, with investigations focused on identifying the possible target and any accomplices.

At the same time, investigations are underway to determine if the vehicle and weaponry are related to other criminal activities under the microscope of authorities. The next 24 hours are considered critical, as further details are expected from the analysis of the findings and evaluation of the material gathered by police officers.
