Kifisos and central Athens gridlocked due to STASY work stoppage

After 5 PM, services will resume – Serious problems also on Kifisias and Mesogeion avenues

Newsroom November 26 04:32

Serious traffic problems are reported on the roads of Attica following the emergency work stoppage by STASY from 12:00 to 18:00 on Metro lines 1 (Kifisia – Piraeus), 2, and 3, as well as on the Tram.

At the moment, traffic is heavy on Kifisos in both directions: southbound from the Varibobi exit to Aigaleo, and northbound from Moschato to Nea Filadelfeia.

Major congestion is also reported in central Athens, with main roads essentially “frozen.”

Vehicles are moving at a crawl on both directions of Kifisias Avenue and on Mesogeion Avenue.

When the work stoppage ends
STASY announced today, Wednesday, 26/11, an emergency work stoppage from 12:00 to 18:00 on Metro lines 1 (Kifisia – Piraeus), 2, and 3, and the Tram.

The decision for this emergency stoppage on both Metro and Tram was announced Wednesday morning.

The stoppage follows a unanimous decision by all STASY employee unions after the fatal injury of a worker this morning. A protest gathering is scheduled at 12:30 at Piraeus Station.

Bus lines reinforced by OSY
At the same time, OSY announced that it has reinforced bus lines serving central Athens.

“OSY informs that due to the emergency work stoppage on Metro and Tram lines, it has immediately reinforced bus lines serving central Athens and operating along key routes to facilitate passengers and reduce delays.

At the same time, OSY immediately responded to two requests for organized transport of student groups visiting the city center for educational activities. Their transport to the final destination was arranged via a special service to ensure safe and smooth return.

The OSY Supervision Management Center, in cooperation with inspectors in the network, monitors passenger flow in order to intervene immediately wherever necessary.”
