Kremlin: There are people in Odessa and Mikolayev who want to connect with Russia

The Kremlin took a clear position in favour of Trump's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip

Newsroom September 30 03:26

The Kremlin announced today that it supports Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza and that it hopes the proposal will end the conflict sparked by the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas against Israel.

“The Kremlin always supports and welcomes all efforts of President Trump aimed at ending the tragedy unfolding at the moment, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov
said.

“We hope that this plan will be implemented and contribute to bringing the events in the Middle East to a peaceful outcome, Peskov added.

Many in Odessa and Mikolayev want to “link their fate to Russia”

Meanwhile, referring to Ukraine, the Kremlin spokesman noted that there are many people living in the Odessa and Mikolaiv regions of Ukraine who want to link their fate to Russia, but are afraid to say so openly.

Peskov was responding to a hypothetical question about what would happen if people in those regions were allowed to vote on whether to become part of Russia.

Moscow announced in 2022 that four other regions of Ukraine are now part of Russian territory, after holding referendums there that were denounced by Kiev and its Western allies as illegal and coercive.

Peskov also noted that Europe would be better off seeking dialogue with Russia on security issues rather than trying to erect a “wall against unmanned aerial vehicles (drones)that divides.
