Three new boats with 190 illegal migrants spotted off Gavdos

The Hellenic Coast Guard and Frontex carried out rescue operations for the foreigners, while investigations are underway to arrest the smugglers

Three new boats carrying 190 illegal migrants were detected on Friday morning (12/9) off the coast of Gavdos. The Hellenic Coast Guard, in cooperation with Frontex, immediately launched rescue operations and investigations to arrest the smugglers.

Specifically, according to ERT, the first boat, carrying 75 illegal migrants, reached the beach of the border island, where the passengers disembarked safely. Shortly afterward, a second boat with 61 people was located and escorted by Frontex to the port of Gavdos. Later, a third boat was spotted off the island with another 54 migrants on board.

Meanwhile, Frontex and the Hellenic Coast Guard remain on standby for new patrols and rescue operations, while investigations to locate and arrest the smugglers are ongoing.
