From European Commissioner to shoe model Margrethe Vestager

The shoe line bears her name in honor of strong women, the company says

Newsroom August 19 10:30

The former “Iron Lady” of the European Commission’s Competition Directorate, Margrethe Vestager, has made an unexpected career turn since leaving EU bureaucracy.

In advertisements appearing in Copenhagen, the Danish former commissioner poses with her own shoe line from the brand Roccamore.

The ankle boots she wears are—naturally—called Margrethe. They come in three colors (brown, deep red, and black) and cost €415.

According to Politico, the company says the design honors the politician and all women who step forward when responsibilities are great. “It’s for those who dare to stand in the eye of the storm, set a new agenda, and do it all with poise and style.”

Vestager served as Competition Commissioner from 2014 to 2024. In the past, she was Deputy Prime Minister of Denmark and leader of the Social Liberal Party. She has stated that she has no plans to become Prime Minister of her country.

She is the commissioner who imposed a €14 billion fine on Apple for the company’s schemes to pay extremely low taxes.

Today, she is Chair of the Board at the Technical University of Denmark.
