Parliament: The amendment on immigration was passed with 177 “yes” votes

"No" to the amendment voted 74 MPs and 42 chose "present" - Reactions from the opposition

Newsroom July 11 01:37

The government’s amendment on immigration was approved by the House of Representatives with 177 positive votes. After an electronic vote, 74 MPs voted “no” and 42 chose “present”, while a total of 293 MPs voted.

A total of 293 Members of Parliament participated in the vote, with 177 casting their support for the measure, drawn primarily from New Democracy (ND), the far-right Greek Solution, and several independent MPs. PASOK and the right-populist Niki party abstained by declaring “present,” while SYRIZA, the Communist Party (KKE), Plefsi Eleftherias, and the New Left opposed the bill.

The adopted amendment stipulates the following:

  • The suspension of asylum application submissions for individuals entering the country irregularly by sea, specifically from points of origin in North Africa. These individuals are to be returned immediately—without official registration—to their country of departure or origin.
