Giorgos Gerapetritis held a telephone conversation today with his Iranian counterpart, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, focusing on recent developments in the broader Middle East region.

The Greek Foreign Minister emphasized that sustainable solutions to regional security challenges can only be achieved through diplomacy and negotiated agreement. He also stressed the importance of full compliance with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, as a key step toward preventing the spread of nuclear arms.

Mr. Gerapetritis further highlighted that maritime security must be preserved in order to safeguard global peace and prosperity. Finally, he underlined the need to ensure the safety of the Greek community and the staff of the Greek Embassy in Tehran, which remains operational.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs is scheduled to brief the Parliamentary Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs on the latest developments in the Middle East tomorrow, Thursday, July 3, at 10:00 a.m., according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
