“The Odyssey”: See the first poster for Christopher Nolan’s film featuring the message “Defy the Gods”

The promotional campaign for the Oscar-winning director’s historical epic appears to have already begun

Newsroom June 30 06:45

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is already making waves, even though more than a year remains until its theatrical release. The film’s first poster has just been unveiled. In recent days, it’s been spotted adorning the walls of AMC cinemas across the United States and has also surfaced online.

Featuring the head of an ancient Greek statue at the bottom of the image, the poster is emblazoned with the tagline “Defy the Gods,” emphasizing the film’s mythological grandeur. Alongside the title and Nolan’s name, it also notes that the movie was “filmed entirely with IMAX cameras,” according to Hindustan Times.

“The Odyssey”: Nolan’s Epic Journey Takes Shape

At the heart of the film is Matt Damon, who stars as Odysseus, navigating his perilous return to Ithaca following the Trojan War. During his legendary journey, he must confront the Cyclops Polyphemus, the enchanting Sirens, and the powerful sorceress Circe before his long-awaited reunion with his wife, Penelope.

The cast surrounding Damon is equally star-studded:

  • Tom Holland plays Telemachus
  • Charlize Theron portrays Circe
  • Anne Hathaway stars as Penelope
  • Zendaya appears as the goddess Athena

The rest of the impressive ensemble includes:
Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Cosmo Jarvis, Will Yun Lee, Maurice Compte, and Corey Hawkins.
