Gerapetritis meets with the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for the Cyprus problem

The Foreign Minister stressed that confidence building is a necessary condition for the resumption of talks on the basis of the agreed framework under the auspices of the UN.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georgos Gerapetritis, met today, Thursday, June 5, with the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar.

The visit of María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar follows her assumption of office on 2 May 2025. The purpose of the visit was to exchange views ahead of the upcoming expanded informal meeting, which is expected to take place in July.

Mr. Gerapetritis expressed Greece’s support to the efforts of the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy on the Cyprus issue, as well as the country’s willingness to contribute constructively, in synergy with the Republic of Cyprus, towards finding a comprehensive, just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, within the framework of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

The Foreign Minister noted the importance of maintaining the momentum in which the Cyprus problem has entered and the need to continue the UN process with a view to implementing the agreements reached at the informal enlarged Geneva meeting. He stressed that confidence building is a necessary condition for the resumption of the talks on the basis of the agreed framework under the auspices of the UN.
