Mitsotakis to visit Odesa for the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit – Communication with Zelenskyy

During the phone call, the latest developments in Ukraine were discussed – “Greece shares our position and will help increase pressure on Russia,” Zelenskyy stated

Newsroom May 22 01:11

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a phone conversation today with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During their communication, they discussed the latest developments in Ukraine. The Prime Minister accepted Mr. Zelenskyy’s invitation to participate in the Ukraine–Southeast European Countries Summit, which will take place in Odesa.

It is worth recalling that the first such high-level meeting was held at Greece’s initiative, in Athens, in August 2023.

Zelenskyy’s Post about the Conversation with Mitsotakis

I had a good conversation with Prime Minister of Greece @kmitsotakis. We discussed increasing pressure on Russia and the continuation of support for Ukraine.

I informed him about my recent contacts with European partners and President Trump. There is a lot of diplomatic work…

In his post about the call with the Greek Prime Minister, the Ukrainian President wrote:

“I had a good conversation with the Prime Minister of Greece. We discussed increasing pressure on Russia and the continued support for Ukraine. I informed him about my recent contacts with European partners and President Trump. There is a lot of diplomatic effort underway these days. Strong pressure and additional sanctions against Russia are needed. No one needs to be reminded that the war continues solely because of Russia’s unwillingness to end it.

I thanked Kyriakos and the entire European Union for the 17th package of sanctions. Moscow must be deprived of everything that enables it to finance killings. Greece shares our position and will contribute to increasing the pressure. Of course, it is important to continue supporting Ukraine, our army, domestic defense production, and to strengthen air defense.

We are grateful for Greece’s continued willingness to help protect lives. I invited Prime Minister Mitsotakis to participate in the Ukraine–Southeast Europe Summit. He confirmed his participation. Thank you.”
