Public Transport – May Day 2025: How ISAP, metro, buses, and trolleys will operate

The metro, bus and trolleybus workers will participate in the May Day strikes with work stoppages - The decision for the ISAP

Workers in public transport will participate in strikes and work stoppages on May Day (Thursday, May 1st), honoring the struggles of the labor movement.

Metro, ISAP (Line 1), Buses, and Trolleys

Buses & Trolleys

Buses and trolleys will run from 09:00 to 21:00, due to work stoppages at the start (until 09:00) and end (after 21:00) of shifts. Service will resume gradually after 09:00 and vehicles will begin returning to depots before 21:00.

However, due to participation in the GSEE’s 24-hour strike, route cancellations are expected even during operational hours. Certain bus lines (listed in an attached table) will operate normally.

Metro – Lines 2 & 3

Lines 2 & 3 will operate from 09:00 to 15:00. During these hours, metro services to and from the Airport will run as usual.

  • Syntagma and Panepistimio stations will remain closed by police order and trains will pass through without stopping.

Last train departures:

  • Anthoupoli → Elliniko: 14:42
  • Elliniko → Anthoupoli: 14:37
  • Dimotiko Theatro → Doukissis Plakentias: 14:44
  • Doukissis Plakentias → Dimotiko Theatro: 14:36
  • Airport → Dimotiko Theatro: First at 09:10, last at 13:58
  • Dimotiko Theatro → Airport: First at 09:06, last at 13:54

Metro Line 1 (ISAP – Kifisia to Piraeus) and Tram

Both will be completely out of service for the entire day.

Trains & Suburban Railway (Proastiakos)

No routes will operate across the railway network, including suburban lines.

Ferries

Ferries will be docked in all ports of the country on May Day.

The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) has announced participation in a 24-hour nationwide strike for all ship categories, from 00:01 to 24:00 on Thursday, May 1st.

In its announcement, PNO emphasized:

  • Protection of seafarers’ rights and working conditions
  • Absorption of unemployed workers
  • Enforcement of collective labor agreements
  • Elimination of uninsured work
  • Proper staffing levels on ships
  • Improved healthcare and pension support for retirees
