Bulgaria: No-confidence motion against Zhelyaskov Government over corruption rejected

The vote concluded with 72 members in favor of the motion and 130 against

Newsroom April 17 06:15

The Bulgarian government, led by Rosen Zhelyaskov, survived a no-confidence motion today that, according to the opposition, was triggered by the administration’s failure to combat widespread corruption, the BTA news agency reported.

The motion—the second this month—was brought forward by the populist MECh party and supported by MPs from the Vazrazhdane (Revival) and Velichie (Grandeur) parties. However, it failed to secure the required majority.

The final tally showed 72 votes in favor and 130 against, with no abstentions recorded.

In order for a no-confidence motion to pass, it must be supported by more than half of the 240-member parliament.
