Hungary: Preparing to pass a constitutional amendment to ban LGBTQ+ events

The amendment recognises only two the genders

Newsroom April 14 11:59

Strong opposition from rights activists is being provoked by the constitutional amendment that Hungarian MPs are preparing to pass, to ban events by the LGBTQI+ community.

The activists are denouncing Victor Orban‘s government for significantly escalating efforts to “trim human rights.”

The amendment, backed by Orban and his right-wing Fidesz party, provides for the codification of the recent ban on Pride events, opening the way for authorities to use facial recognition software to identify and fine attendees.

The document says the priority is to protect the physical, mental and moral development of children and enshrines the recognition of only the two genders. It therefore provides the constitutional basis for denying other “gender identities” in the country.
