The Istanbul Municipal Council, controlled by the opposition, has elected an interim mayor

Nuri Aslan has been appointed as the interim mayor of Istanbul, replacing Ekrem İmamoğlu.

According to the NTV television network, the Istanbul Municipal Council, which is under opposition control, elected a temporary mayor today (March 26).

Specifically, the 314-member municipal council elected Nuri Aslan as the interim head of Istanbul with 177 votes.

He is expected to serve for the remainder of Ekrem İmamoğlu’s term, as İmamoğlu awaits trial and remains imprisoned on corruption charges.
