Mitsotakis: We must move faster in the Transport sector – And we will

The Prime Minister participated in a meeting at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport – Stressed the urgent need to upgrade the railway network

Newsroom March 18 12:38

“We must move faster, and that is exactly what we will do,” emphasized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis following a meeting at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. His visit was part of a series of ministerial inspections after the government reshuffle and the swearing-in of new cabinet members.

Mitsotakis highlighted the urgent necessity of upgrading the Athens–Thessaloniki railway network with state-of-the-art safety systems and modern rolling stock.

At the beginning of April, the Prime Minister announced, a comprehensive presentation of new initiatives for public transportation will be held. These measures will include new buses as well as the hiring of additional drivers. Further interventions are planned for Metro Lines 2 and 3, while an upgrade of Line 1 is also in the works.

By 2027, the landscape of public transport will be completely transformed, Mitsotakis noted.

The Prime Minister was welcomed by the new Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Christos Dimas, along with Deputy Minister of Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tachiaos. Also present at the meeting was Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, who will oversee railway infrastructure improvements.
