Harvard University is eliminating tuition for students from families with incomes of $200,000 or less in an effort to expand access.

The extension of financial aid to Harvard, the oldest and richest university in the US, means that school will be free for families with incomes up to $200,000, and food and housing will also be covered. Students who meet the $200,000 threshold will pay no tuition, according to a statement Monday.

Similar programs were recently announced at the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with the push to boost affordability coming as the price of attending many elite schools tops $90,000 a year.
