Friday: Sun shines through the snow but schools shut

Thursday's weather is overcast with slightly higher temperatures for Friday

Athens temperatures are between -3C to 9C and there will be scattered clouds with the possibility of light nowfall or sleet in the northern and eastern parts. In Thessaloniki, the weather will be cloudy with temperatures between -4C and 7C.

Wind velocity will reach 7 on the Beaufort scale. The day is partly cloudy with the possibility of light snowfall or sleet in northern parts of the country and temperatures ranging from -9C and 7C. There are scattered clouds in western parts of the country with temperatures from -3 to 13C. The eastern parts of the country are also partly cloudy with temperatures at -7C to 11C and the possibility of light snowfall or sleet.

The islands will note temperatures from -2C to 12C.

Schools shut

Greek schools are still on Friday in a number of regions in northern Greece but in Attica, where Athens is located as a result of snowfall and very low temperatures over the last few days.

In eastern Attica and the northern suburbs, schools are shut in an effort to prevent accidents due to the snow, while a number of others will open later on in the day. Among districts where schools will remain closed are those of Acharnes, Thracomakedones, Varybobi, Olympic Village, Varnavas, Marathonas, Ano Liossia, and Ekali districts. Schools opening late include those in Dionyssos, Kifissia and Nea Erythrea will open later, as will schools on the southern island of Kythira.
