Precautionary measures in the ports of Santorini due to the seismic activity

The Port Authority of Thira has decided to implement preventive measures from February 13 at the ports of Santorini due to the ongoing seismic activity.

To prevent danger to the life and physical integrity of visitors, passengers, and individuals operating in the area, the following measures have been announced for the port of Athinios, the port of Amoudi Bay, the port of Fira Bay, the port of Korfos (Thirasia Island), and the bay of Armeni:

  1. Access to and stay at the port of Athinios, Thira, is prohibited, except during ship arrivals and departures.
  2. Access to and stay at the ports of Amoudi Bay, Fira Bay, Armeni Bay, and Korfos (Thirasia Island) is prohibited.
  3. The arrival of all types of ships, vessels, and floating structures at the ports and bays listed in paragraph (2) is prohibited, except in cases of emergency, and only with approval from the Thira Port Authority.
  4. Due to the restriction on vehicle movement on the provincial road from Athinios Bay – Fira – Perissa for vehicles longer than 12 meters and over 45 tons, according to a decision by the Cyclades Police Directorate, in the event that vehicles with the aforementioned characteristics are unloaded from passenger ferries at the port of Athinios, Thira, they will be directed inland after coordination with the staff of the Thira Port Authority on duty at the respective port.
  5. The implementation of secure mooring – anchoring measures by owners – captains of incoming vessels and ships in the jurisdiction of the Thira Port Authority.

Immediate Readiness:

a) The Municipal Port Fund of Thira, as the managing authority of the ports, will provide assistance, if required, with material and technical means.

b) Owners – captains of tenders, fishing vessels, and professional recreational boats must remain in constant vigilance and updated on the expected evolution of weather conditions and phenomena, both for their own safety and the safety of their passengers, and be ready to provide assistance if needed.

  1. In case of non-compliance, offenders, regardless of any criminal or other liabilities according to the applicable legislation, will also be subject to the penalties of Article 157 of the N.D. 187/1973 (A’ 261), as amended and in force.
