The space company Blue Origin of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos plans to lay off about 10% of its employees, its CEO Dave Lieb announced today. The goal is to reduce costs and increase missile launches, he explained.

The layoffs involve about 1,400 of the company’s 14,000 employees at all of its branches in Florida, Texas, and Washington.

Jobs in research and development, among other areas, will be eliminated, while the priority for 2025 will be to accelerate the production and launch rate of New Glenn missiles.

The first, long-awaited launch of this rocket took place last month.
