Florides for Tempi: I never spoke about the 13th wagon

He referred to conspiracy theories while also pointing at Mr. Velopoulos

Newsroom January 30 06:06

Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis addressed the tragic Tempi accident, clarifying that he never mentioned a “13th carriage.”

In an interview with SKAI, he stated, among other things: “The only person who has all the evidence in his hands is the Appellate Judge. He cannot speak. So, at this time, when the person who holds all the evidence cannot speak—and rightly so, as he is protecting the confidentiality of the investigation—conspiracy theories are being created from certain quarters, not the victims’ families. Let’s say from some journalists who claim to be investigating the case but are constantly stuffing it with more speculation.

Let me go back to those who have fueled the biggest conspiracy theories—take, for example, Mr. Velopoulos. It was Mr. Velopoulos who brought this carriage into public discussion. When he was cornered, well, come on, there must be some trace of this carriage—after all, we’re talking about a carriage, about metal.”

A little later, Mr. Floridis posted an excerpt from his interview, emphasizing that the references to a “13th carriage” were mistakenly made by journalists and not by him.

“Some politicians feed off lies. Now, after their hypocrisy regarding Tempi has been exposed (SYRIZA), they’ve suddenly discovered that I supposedly talked about a 13th carriage that never existed,” he noted, stressing that this particular wording was wrongly attributed to him.
