“We met within the framework of the 10th Summit of Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus, a resilient and productive cooperation scheme that is the most advanced in the broader region amid numerous crises in the area. We confirmed that we will continue to work consistently to further strengthen it,” emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis, explaining that a broad range of actions will be utilized.

“We reiterated the commitment to strengthen strategic cooperation in the energy sector,” he said, citing European standards for energy security, increasing renewable energy sources, and the project that will connect Greece and Egypt.

“Egypt is open to cooperation” with Greece and Cyprus, stated Al Sisi, thanking the leaders of the other two states.

For his part, the President of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, expressed his pleasure for the meeting, noting that an in-depth review of a series of sectors had taken place, with substantial discussions and agreements signed.

A significant part of the discussions was regional developments, all that is happening in our neighborhood, which is in a difficult situation, said Mr. Anastasiades. The multiplication of conflicts in Syria, what is happening in Gaza, Libya, and the Red Sea has created an unprecedented crisis.

Mr. Anastasiades also referred to the need for international support for Egypt. He also expressed satisfaction with the upgrade of EU-Egypt relations. The declaration of the strategic relationship between the two sides shows that the security and stability of Europe and Egypt are intertwined. A steady goal is the further enhancement of these goals. The three leaders also mentioned the need to strengthen economic cooperation to increase trade and investment relations.

“We appreciate Egypt’s contribution regarding Libya”

“We appreciate Egypt’s contribution regarding Libya,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated earlier in his remarks at the start of the Trilateral Summit of Greece-Cyprus-Egypt, taking place in Cairo.

“We must address what is happening in Gaza. We must strive for a ceasefire and, of course, the release of the hostages, to find a way to resume momentum for a solution that will involve two states,” said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the many geopolitical challenges in the Middle East region. “The positive thing is that we look each other in the eyes and exchange views, recognizing the need for cooperation with other regional players who agree with us and, of course, we share similar positions regarding the need for a stable Middle East that does not export problems to other countries in the region. I would also like to highlight the importance of the business forum, which is taking place and concerns Greek businesses. This reflects renewed interest in strengthening the economic ties between Egypt and Greece.”

The Greek Prime Minister had earlier held a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
