Giorgios Gerapetritis: “NATO must stand against any form of revisionism”

"The Greek Embassy in Damascus is in constant communication with the entire Greek community in order to provide any assistance required," the Foreign Minister said.

Newsroom December 3 06:00

“NATO should stand against any form of revisionism, as is now the case with the Russian attack on Ukraine,” Foreign Minister Giorgios Gerapetritis said, addressing the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Council in Brussels today.

The full statement by Foreign Minister, G.G. Gerepredets, in his speech on the occasion of the meeting of the European Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, G.G. Gerepredets. Gerapetritis is as follows:

“We come today to the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting at an extremely difficult time with crises looming.

We will have the opportunity to discuss with the monarch of Jordan, the bilateral relations between NATO and Jordan, and to hear about the situation as it is unfolding in the Middle East and now in Syria, where there is great concern about the situation in which it is currently developing.

The Greek Embassy in Damascus is in constant communication with the entire Greek community to provide any assistance required.

I had the opportunity a few days ago to discuss with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, to exchange views that NATO should stand against any form of revisionism, as is now happening with the Russian attack on Ukraine.

Greece supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

We will have the opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen the Atlantic Alliance given the Hague Summit next year.

There should be strong ties, to strengthen the rule of law, democracy, and the integrity of all states.

Greece, which has always been a driving force in emphasizing the Southern Neighborhood, on the crises that are currently plaguing the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa, will continue to have a productive role so that the major issues that are plaguing us can be resolved.

From its new position, as of January 1, Greece, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, will contribute in such a way that it will always bring to the surface those issues that create tensions and crises, always faithful to international law, to the peaceful resolution of disputes, bridging the North with the South and the East with the West.”
