War in Ukraine: Russia launched over 2,000 drone attacks in October, Kyiv reports

Moscow has systematically conducted airstrikes on Ukrainian cities, with the Ukrainian capital Kyiv alone facing attacks 20 times in October

Newsroom November 1 04:40

Russia launched more than 2,000 drone attacks targeting both military and civilian sites across Ukraine last month, as announced today by Ukraine’s armed forces. Moscow’s continued airstrikes on Ukrainian cities included 20 attacks on Kyiv alone in October, according to city officials.

The General Staff of Ukraine’s forces clarified in a statement that 1,185 of the 2,023 drones launched last month were intercepted, while the whereabouts of another 738 remain unaccounted for.

“Since the beginning of 2024, the enemy has deployed a total of 6,987 offensive drones over Ukrainian territory. These drones mainly targeted non-military and critical infrastructure,” the statement added.

Ukraine reported today that it shot down 31 drones and a missile during a Russian overnight assault, which damaged residential buildings in at least two regions and a fire station in the southern Odesa region.

Russia denies targeting civilians, claiming that energy facilities are legitimate targets when they support Ukrainian military infrastructure.

Ukraine is preparing for another winter with power outages, facing threats of further Russian attacks on its energy system, which has already been weakened by strikes earlier this year.
