Mitsotakis: Thessaloniki Metro to be delivered on November 30, 2024

Regarding the Flyover road project, he emphasized that the goal is for it to be completed by the Spring of 2027

Newsroom August 27 02:26

On November 30, 2024, the Thessaloniki Metro will be delivered to the people of Thessaloniki, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced during his speech at the event titled: “National Strategy for Regional Development / Presentation of the Digital Platform erga.gov.gr.”

“After many inaugurations, which were not inaugurations, after banners, presentations, and disputes, I am pleased to announce that the Thessaloniki Metro will be delivered—not inaugurated, but delivered—to the citizens on November 30, 2024,” said the Prime Minister to applause.

Regarding the Flyover road axis, he emphasized that the goal is for it to be completed by the Spring of 2027, ahead of the parliamentary elections.

“Thessaloniki is changing, and it is changing at a very fast pace. No government has implemented more projects for Thessaloniki than this one, and I believe the citizens of Thessaloniki are beginning to recognize this,” Mitsotakis noted in his speech.

“I completely understand the skepticism and hesitation toward commitments, which the citizens of Thessaloniki have heard many times, but reality has always been different. Here, I believe we have moved beyond past practices and proven that we can deliver on what we promise within specific timelines,” he said. The Prime Minister added that the detailed information presented by the relevant ministers about the projects in Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia supports this claim.

Mitsotakis made special mention of healthcare, noting that Thessaloniki will have the most modern anti-cancer and pediatric hospitals within the next four years.

He emphasized that the interventions made through the Recovery Fund in all healthcare infrastructures, including emergency departments and health centers, represent a comprehensive plan to upgrade the infrastructure of the National Health Service, unlike anything previously undertaken.

Mitsotakis also highlighted the importance of regional convergence achieved through the national strategy for regional development and stressed that the Digital Platform erga.gov.gr allows anyone to track project progress, ensuring accountability, prioritization, and efficiency.

Mitsotakis’ Visit to Thessaloniki

Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived around 10 a.m. at YMATH, where he was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of the Interior responsible for Macedonia and Thrace affairs, Konstantinos Giulekas. He then proceeded to a meeting room where New Democracy MPs from Thessaloniki’s 1st and 2nd districts discussed issues concerning the city with him. Maria Syregela, the Secretary of the Political Committee of New Democracy, was also present.
