Shipwreck in Palermo: Body of Hannah Lynch, the last missing person, found

The young woman was trapped, like the other victims, inside one of the cabins at a depth of 50 meters

Newsroom August 23 01:23

The lifeless body of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, the daughter of the English tycoon who had been missing since the luxury yacht Bayesian sank last Monday, was discovered by Italian firefighters on Friday morning.

Hannah, the last missing person from the shipwreck, was trapped in one of the cabins, along with the other victims.

Meanwhile, Italian authorities have launched an investigation into charges of involuntary manslaughter related to the tragic shipwreck in Palermo that claimed the lives of six people.

According to the Daily Mail, the Termini Imerese Prosecutor’s Office, led by Ambrogio Cartosio, is investigating why the luxury yacht Bayesian capsized and sank near the Porticello harbor shortly before 5 a.m. on Monday.

Investigators are examining potential charges of “causing a shipwreck and multiple involuntary manslaughter” against “unknown persons,” according to Italian media cited by the British newspaper.

The prosecutors are expected to hold a press conference tomorrow morning, where they are likely to reveal more details about their investigation.

Causing a shipwreck is a distinct offense under the Italian Penal Code and carries a prison sentence of up to 12 years.

It is also noted that in the past 24 hours, the causes behind the sinking of tycoon Michael Lynch’s yacht—who is among the deceased—have been the subject of speculation. Various theories have been proposed by experts regarding what caused the tragic shipwreck, with the CEO of the company that built the yacht mentioning “multiple human errors.”
