Olympic Games: Greece Secures Fifth Place in Men’s Water Polo, Defeats Spain 15-13

The Greek national men's water polo team secured a victory with a score of 15-13 against Spain, finishing in fifth place at the Olympic Games

Newsroom August 11 12:02

The team made it clear once again that the loss to Serbia was just an unfortunate setback, which, unfortunately, proved costly. The Greek team claimed victory against Spain and concluded their Olympic campaign in fifth place.

The match began with both teams focusing on defense, resulting in limited scoring. Greece took the lead twice in the first quarter, but Spain managed to equalize both times.

The second period was drastically different from the first, with both teams engaging in a goal-scoring spree. A total of ten goals were scored, with Greece netting six and entering the second half with a two-goal lead (8-6).

In the third quarter, Greece maintained strong momentum from the second period, tightening their defense against Spain’s shots and extending their lead to five goals (12-7) with a 4-1 advantage.

The fourth and final period seemed like a formality with Greece’s five-goal lead. However, Spain fought back, reducing the deficit to just one goal (14-13). Greece, however, sealed the win with a final goal, confirmed after a VAR review, bringing the score to 15-13.
