Norway: Princess Mette-Marit’s son arrested for assault

The police reported that 27-year-old Marius Borg Høiby allegedly caused "physical injuries" to a woman and "damage" to an apartment

Newsroom August 7 06:59

Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, was arrested over the weekend on charges of assaulting a woman, the country’s police announced on Wednesday (7/8).

The 27-year-old, a stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, has been a well-known figure in Norway since he was a child.

The police reported that early Sunday morning, they received a call from an apartment in Oslo following an altercation that occurred there during the night. A man was arrested and released the next day.

“As it has been reported by various media outlets that this individual is Marius Borg Høiby, the police confirm that the suspect in this case is Høiby,” the statement added.

According to the same source, Princess Mette-Marit’s son allegedly caused “physical injuries” to the woman and “damage” to the apartment. The authorities did not name the victim, stating only that there was a “relationship” between the suspect and this woman.

The royal family has not made any comments so far.

Marius Borg Høiby was born in 1997 and was the result of a previous relationship of Mette-Marit. Four years later, in 2001, she married Crown Prince Haakon, the future king of Norway.

However, unlike his siblings, Marius does not have any official public role.
