In its catalogues, various Greek dishes stand out, such as the dako’s, a Cretan salad that tops the list of the 100 best salads in the world, the lamb chops that rank among the top five Greek lamb dishes worldwide, and the tzatziki, which is among the top five dips globally.

This time, Taste Atlas created a culinary map showcasing several Aegean islands. Recently, they did the same for Italy. For instance, the Aegina pistachio is one of the highlighted foods on their culinary map. From Kythira, they’ve selected rose sweets, a classic wedding treat, and faturada, a traditional liqueur. Although most islands on the map are represented by a single dish, Crete stands out with many entries, including portokalopita (orange pie), apaki (smoked pork), mizithra (cheese), tsikoudia (raki), dako’s, sofegada (a dessert), graviera (cheese), and mizithropita (cheese pie). Other islands featured on the map include Chios, Lesbos, Santorini, Mykonos, and Sifnos, among others.

The 10 Most Popular Greek Dishes

The post also includes a link listing the most popular Greek dishes, with gyros in first place and souvlaki in second. In third place is moussaka, followed by horiatiki (Greek salad), tzatziki, pastitsio, spanakopita (spinach pie), gemista (stuffed vegetables), and horta (wild greens). The top ten is completed by keftedakia (meatballs).
