How will transportation operate tomorrow, May Day

When will they start, what hours will the workers strike - Changes in train schedules - Ships docked at ports

Workers’ decisions bring a new twist to the operation of public transportation tomorrow. Ultimately, metro lines 1, 2, and 3 will operate from 9:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon, while initially it was announced that they would operate from 9 in the morning until 9 at night.

Specifically, according to the latest announcement tomorrow, Wednesday, May 1, 2024, due to the participation of workers’ unions in strike mobilizations, Metro Lines 1, 2 & 3 will operate from 09:30 to 16:30 and the Tram from 09:00 to 21:00. In OASA (buses and trolleys), the work stoppage is from 09:00 to 21:00.

Metro schedules to and from the Airport will run normally between 09:30 – 16:30. Also, by order of the Hellenic Police, the Syntagma Metro station will remain closed tomorrow from 9:30 in the morning until further notice. Trains will pass through it without stopping.

Normal schedules are expected to be maintained on urban routes operated by KTEL.

Changes to train schedules

Suspensions and modifications to schedules across the entire railway network, including the suburban railway, will occur on May Day, Wednesday, May 1, due to the strike announced by GSEE, for International Workers’ Day, in which the Panhellenic Railway Federation (POS) is participating.

According to information from Hellenic Train, the following schedules will be operated with security personnel:

On the Athens – Thessaloniki – Athens section: 52, 53, 56, and 57
On the Larissa – Thessaloniki – Larissa section: 1591, 1592, 2593, 2594, 1597, and 1598
On the Piraeus – Kiato – Piraeus section: 1300, 1305, 1318, 1323, 1326, and 2301
On the Piraeus – Airport – Piraeus section: 1206, 1207, 1222, 1223, 1230, and 1231
On the Athens – Chalkida – Athens section: 1532, 1535, 1550, 1553, 2530, and 2533
On the Kiato – Patra – Kiato section, bus schedules will be operated:
From Patra C15 (14:25) and C23 (18:25)
From Kiato C14 (16:05) and C24 (20:05)

Also, due to the strike, the following schedules are modified:

– On the Piraeus-Kiato-Piraeus section:

On Great Tuesday, 30.04.2024, the train sets 2302 and 2304 will operate their route from Piraeus to Ano Liosia by train, and on the Ano Liosia – Kiato section, they will be replaced by buses.

– On the Athens-Chalkida-Athens section:

On Great Tuesday, 30.04.2024, train set 2534 will operate from Athens to Afidnes by train, and on the Afidnes – Chalkida section, it will be replaced by a bus. Also, train set 2539 on the Chalkida – Oinoi section will be replaced by a bus.

Ships moored at ports

Ships across the country will remain moored at ports on Great Wednesday, May 1, as the Panhellenic Seafarers’ Federation decided to participate in the nationwide – labor 24-hour strike announced by GSEE.

The strike, which concerns all categories of ships nationwide, will begin at 00:01 on the morning of Wednesday, 1-5-2024, and will end at 24:00 on the same day.

“The Seafarers once again pay tribute this year, as they did in the past, with respect and memory on the iconic day that literally changed the course of history and is identified and associated with the multifaceted struggles of all Workers in our Country and around the world,” said the union of seafarers in a statement.

The PNO demands the absorption of all unemployed seafarers, the elimination of black uninsured labor, the implementation of Collective Labor Agreements in all categories of ships, and the immediate abolition of all anti-labor provisions.

It also emphasizes the urgent need to finally put a stop to the continuous violation of the legal working hours and employment limits of Seafarers, to immediately abolish reduced organic compositions, and to establish new ones that truly meet modern needs.

It also deems the upgrade of medical care as imperative and immediate.
