Mitsotakis presents the “Aegis” program of Civil Protection

It concerns targeted interventions for the enhancement of infrastructure & technical equipment, integration of new technologies & innovation in the field of civil protection

Newsroom April 24 06:44

The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presents the “Aegis” program of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

The “Aegis” program, with a budget exceeding 2 billion euros, includes targeted interventions to strengthen infrastructure and technical equipment, as well as the integration of new technologies and innovation in the field of civil protection.

At the beginning of what could be an unprecedented fire season, the extra resources for Civil Protection are essential for the government, and during the event, the complete implementation of all program projects within the summer is expected to be announced.

According to information from protothema.gr, during the last 9 months, under the tenure of Mr. Kikilias, the Aegis program, which had been designed, has started to be fully implemented, with tenders worth 1.5 billion euros already announced.

Another 320 million in tenders will be announced by the end of May, and by the end of July at the latest, the program will be completed in its entirety.

The first deliveries are expected by 2025, with initial deliveries of new coordination airplanes and mobile operation centers in the 13 regions of the country.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Mitsotakis had stated in October that Aegis would be the absolute criterion for the Ministry of Civil Protection, as the minister “isn’t going to go by himself to put out fires or to deal with the effects of a major flood in the field,” but “his main role is to implement an ambitious plan for the complete readjustment of Civil Protection to the new requirements of the times.”
