Thessaly’s damage restoration plan for rail, road and school infrastructure

The total cost of the project will exceed 3 billion euros, as Kyriakos Mitsotakis said - The PM, during his statement, also referred to the European dimension of funding through the Recovery Fund

Newsroom April 23 06:42

Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a message of Thessaly’s recovery from Karditsa, where he presented the program of damage restoration from the extreme weather events of last September in railway, road and school infrastructure in that region.

“The total restoration of the damage caused by “Daniel” and “Elias” will exceed €3 billion.

Of this, 1.4 billion is only for road, rail infrastructure and the rehabilitation of our schools,” the Prime Minister stressed, among other things.

“We did not in any way account for technocratic cost-benefit approaches. The roads will be restored so that even the most inaccessible corner of Thessaly is accessible.

If we have learned anything from the passage of Janos, it is that something built to modern standards can withstand bad weather of Daniel’s size,” he added, among other things.

He noted that if the country was not in a good fiscal situation, not developing etc., it was doubtful that the required national resources could be found.

He added that in order to direct more resources to Thessaly, other projects were deprived of them, while he also referred to the European dimension of funding through the Recovery Fund.

The restoration plan presented concerns five prefectures, Trikala, Larissa, Karditsa, Magnesia, Evia and Fthiotida. As it becomes clear, interventions were needed at 1,009 points on the road network with a total budget of €892 million.

It is worth noting that 110 bridges in the five above-mentioned counties were damaged by the extreme weather conditions.
