Athens-Trikala journey in 3 hours

Mitsotakis at the ceremony of the Terna project

Newsroom April 23 11:58

TERNA has delivered the E65 Lamia-Xyniada and Trikala-Kalambaka route inaugurated today by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s political leadership. The completed sections of the highway connect significant tourist destinations in the likes of Meteora, Limni Plastiras, Karpenisi, and Trikala. Additionally, it links the port of Igoumenitsa to Volos hence, facilitating international transportation making it Greece’s gateway to central Europe for passenger and freight transport.

The project was completed following numerous obstacles where the southern section of the Central Greece Axis faced floods and also route changes delayed the project approximately by 2.5 years. While 25 kilometers of the northern section are being delivered currently, the remaining 70.5 km are yet to be completed. The northern section, including a segment from the Karpenissi junction to the Xyniada intersection, totaling 18 km, is scheduled for completion by 2026, later than planned due to delays in expropriations.
