Postal vote: Exceeded 114,000 registrations

Most of the registrations from abroad, at 85%, were found in Europe

More than 114,200 voters have so far registered to vote by postal vote in the 9th of June European elections, according to the latest official figures from the Ministry of Interior, with the participation of voters from outside Greece far exceeding the number of citizens who voted from abroad in last summer’s parliamentary polls.

Participation which is expected to increase further in the coming days, as we are now in the last week of operation of the relevant platform.

The number of voters in Greece who have indicated that they will vote by post currently stands at 80,908, which demonstrates the particularly strong interest in the postal vote solution within the country, at a time when the government has indicated that it will seek to introduce it in general elections as well, in addition to this year’s European elections.

At the same time, those registered outside Greece now number more than 33,350, almost double the 17,365 votes counted at polling stations abroad last June.

Most of the foreign registrations, at a rate of almost 85%, are found in Europe, where 28,177 citizens have requested to receive the special envelope to participate in the elections.

Almost 3,500 have registered in North and Central America, more than 700 voters will send their vote from Asia, while more than 600 will take part in the electoral process from Oceania.

According to reports, Greeks residing in countries such as Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, El Salvador, Kazakhstan, Ivory Coast, etc., countries where no polling station was established in the 2023 parliamentary elections due to the restrictions in place, have registered on the platform.

Therefore, this is the first time that all Greeks abroad, regardless of their place of residence, will be able to vote in the upcoming European elections without any restrictions.

All age groups are fairly well represented, in a further indication of the widespread and widespread interest in postal voting. Citizens aged 41-50 and 51-60 currently account for 39.6% of those registered.

Younger citizens, 17-30 and 31-40 years old, account for 30.8%, while older citizens, 61-70 and over 71 years old, account for 29.6%.
