Strike on Wednesday – Who participates, how taxis, metro, electric railway & tram will operate

National strike on Wednesday, April 17, declared by GSEE demanding wage increases, restoration of Collective Labor Agreements, and protection of income from inflation.

Specifically, ships at ports across the country will remain docked because the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation decided to participate in the 24-hour strike, resulting in no ferry services on that day. As stated in a relevant announcement: “The strike of PNO will start at 00:01 on Wednesday, April 17, and will end at midnight of the same day, with the demand to address inflation and ensure suitable conditions for a decent standard of living.”

Additionally, workers in the public sector are participating in the strike, according to decisions made by primary unions and federations. Furthermore, among the associations participating in the strike is EINAP, representing doctors in public hospitals in Athens and Piraeus.

Taxis:

Work stoppage from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, and participation in the GSEE mobilization was announced by the Taxi Drivers’ Union (SAT) with a gathering at SAT offices at 10:00 AM.

Trains:

The Panhellenic Federation of Railway and Fixed Rail Transport Workers unanimously decided to participate in the 24-hour national strike announced by GSEE for Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

However, in a recent announcement, Hellenic Train stated the following: Due to the 24-hour strike announced by GSEE, in which the Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers (POS) also participates, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, there will be suspensions and modifications to schedules across the network, including the Suburban Railway.

For the best possible service to the public, Hellenic Train will operate the following services with security personnel:

– Athens – Thessaloniki – Athens: Trains 52, 53, 56, and 57
– Larissa – Thessaloniki – Larissa: Trains 1591, 1592, 2593, 2594, 1597, and 1598
– Piraeus – Kiato – Piraeus: Trains 1300, 1305, 1318, 1323, 1326, and 2301
– Piraeus – Airport – Piraeus: Trains 1206, 1207, 1222, 1223, 1230, and 1231
– Athens – Chalkida – Athens: Trains 1532, 1535, 1550, 1553, 2530, and 2533

Bus services:

The OASA Workers’ Union announced a work stoppage on Wednesday, April 17, from the start of the shift until 9:00 AM and from 9:00 PM until the end of the shift. (The OASA Workers’ Union of Technicians and Workers) declared a work stoppage from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM – however, this sector does not affect traffic.

Trams:

The Administrative Council of the Athens-Piraeus Electric Railways Workers’ Union decided on work stoppages for Wednesday from the start of the shift until 9:00 AM and from 9:00 PM until the end of the shift, with a gathering at Klafthmonos Square at 11:00 AM.

Tram:

No official announcement has been made yet, but according to information, it is leaning towards a 24-hour strike.

The SELMA (Union of Athens Metro Workers) decided to participate in the 24-hour General Strike called by GSEE for Wednesday, April 17.

The Federation of Transport Workers of Greece (OSME) participates in the 24-hour nationwide general strike announced by GSEE and scheduled for Wednesday.
