A cargo ship carrying containers crashed into one of the pillars of a bridge early Tuesday morning in Baltimore, USA, resulting in its collapse.

The bridge that collapsed is the Francis Scott Key Bridge, while the ship that struck it is reported to be of Singaporean flag.

According to initial reports, at the time of the collapse, there were 3-4 vehicles and seven workers on the bridge.

According to a Fire Brigade boat operator, “a container ship struck the Key Bridge in Baltimore. A section of the bridge has collapsed. Fire and police boats are rushing to the area.”

The Francis Scott Key Bridge, the largest in the Baltimore area, was constructed in 1977. It spans 2.6 kilometers and is estimated to be crossed by 11.5 million vehicles annually. The construction cost was $110 million.
