3-storey house in central Greece “resting” on a bus!

Apocalyptic images from central Greece as Daniel bad weather tears through Thessaly

Newsroom September 6 07:07

Photos snapped by a resident in central Greece show the extent of the devastation the bad weather system Daniel left in its path.

The photos, as ERT reports, show a three-story house leaning and “resting” on a tourist bus that was washed away and found in the yard, while the road in front of the house has been torn apart by the rushing waters.

“The intensity and duration of the unprecedented situation for meteorological data in our country, has put us all under great pressure,” said Greek Minister of Climate Crisis Vassilis Kikilias at the start of the emergency briefing on bad weather Daniel, at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. “In these very difficult conditions, the Civil Protection, the Fire Department, the Greek Police, the Hellenic Civil Defence, the Armed Forces, and the Local Authorities are making superhuman efforts”, he stressed.

As the minister noted, the Civil Protection had sent a timely warning and instructions to the regions and municipalities on September 1, based on the meteorological forecasts.

According to Kikilias, in the wider region of Thessaly and Sterea Ellada, there were 158 vehicles operating, along with 360 firefighters, the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 8th Special Units for disasters (EMAK), 552 pumping operations have been carried out, 172 rescue operations from which 417 of our fellow citizens were rescued, while 14 messages have been sent by 112.

The Minister called on everyone to follow the instructions of the authorities for the next 24 hours, noting that the bad weather will last until tomorrow night, while the phenomena, as he said, will partially affect Attica.

According to the experts’ estimates, it seems that tomorrow the situation in Magnesia will be dramatic, largely reminiscent of Tuesday (5/9), a day when the problems from the downpour were numerous, roads were broken up, “torrents” carried away everything in their path, rivers overflowed and muddy water “swallowed” vehicles, while two people have so far lost their lives. This dramatic situation is demonstrated by the following photographs taken from above.
