According to public broadcaster ERT, the two young men of Pakistani origin, 24 and 27 years old, in July 2022 on the central beach east of the city of Rethymno, fell into the hands of the two men who had suddenly appeared in front of her after immobilizing her, as she described today in judges with tears in their eyes, proceeded to gang-rape her.

The 18-year-old, at the time, had immediately rushed to the authorities to report her rape. Police identified and arrested the perpetrators, who all this time were detained in Tripoli. The two defendants, who had confessed to their actions during their arrest, today during their testimony claimed that the sexual acts were with the consent of the girl and that they themselves stopped any sexual touch when she refused to submit to their desires.

Ultimately, the court sentenced them to life imprisonment, with no mitigating circumstances recognised. The Pakistanis will be sent to Tripoli prisons, while an appeal has been filed by their lawyers.
