What is the IQ of Greeks? (world comparison)

Which country is the smartest?

Newsroom September 13 04:23

For several decades the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) has been used to roughly measure the intelligence of an individual or a group of individuals in relation to the rest of the population. Each person’s IQ is estimated by various methods, which usually involve tests with questions or procedures with specified objects.

According to the World Population Review, most people worldwide (about 68%) have an IQ from 85 to 115. The few who now have an IQ above 140 then belong to the geniuses. However, the website map showing the IQ of each country in detail is also interesting.

There we see that Japan is in first place with the average IQ of its population reaching 106.49, followed by Taiwan (106.57), Singapore (105.89), Hong Kong (105.37), and China (104.10). The European states that have managed to be included in the top ten are Belarus (101.60), Finland (101.20), Liechtenstein (101.07), but also the Netherlands, and Germany with an average IQ of 100.74.

You will now be wondering – and rightly so – where Greece is in this ranking. The truth is that although our country is far from the first place, it gathered a decent average IQ in the research done by the World Population Review in 2019. It is in 55th place worldwide with an average IQ of 90.77, below neighboring Cyprus (it is 47th with 93.39) and Bulgaria (it is 54th with 90.99), but above Turkey (it is 77th with 86.8) and Albania (109th with 81.75).

The state with the lowest IQ in the table is Nepal with 42.99.
