In highly provocative move, Turkish Defence Minister flew over the North Aegean (videos-photos)

Akar made the move after threatening Greece in a speech

Newsroom September 2 01:12

Continuing his egregious moves against Greece, Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar flew over the North Aegean only hours after his inflammatory statements threatening Greece it should learn from history.

Turkish daily Hurriyet dubbed the provocative move “a show of force”.

Akar, who attended a Turkish Air Force training event, got into an F-16 and, in a show of force – as Hurriyet describes it, made a “special flight over the North Aegean”.

Accompanied by Air Force Commander General Atilla Gulan, “Akar saluted, during the flight, the monument to the martyrs of Canakkale” as reported by the newspaper.

Flying over the Dardanelles, Akar sent the following message: “We will try to be worthy of all our martyrs, especially those who lie in Canakkale, and continue our struggle in their spirit.”

During the event, the Turkish Defence Minister warned Greece saying: “We have repeatedly told Greece to learn lessons from history”

“We have always and everywhere responded to this disrespect of Greece and we will continue to do so. We have repeatedly reminded our interlocutors to learn from history, and we continue to do so. It was Greece that made an invasion attempt in 1919-1922 with the encouragement and support of certain countries. Then Greece, which was disappointed, took out its prime ministers, ministers, and even the chief of the Army General Staff. We say you will get nowhere with this so-called equipment, so-called alliance. Hold the hand of peace that we have extended, let us continue our work in accordance with international law in the framework of good neighborly relations. We say that Greece should stop seeing Turkey as a threat.”
