A US Navy warship (USS Truxtun) collided with a US Navy supply ship (USNS Supply) during a refueling operation - Two people suffered minor injuries

A U.S. Navy warship collided with a navy supply vessel during a refueling operation at sea near South America on Wednesday (Feb. 11).

According to the BBC, two personnel sustained minor injuries and were reported to be in stable condition.

The collision occurred while the two ships were sailing in parallel as part of a routine underway replenishment, said Colonel Emmanuel Ortiz, a spokesperson for the U.S. Southern Command.

Despite the incident, both vessels were able to continue operating safely, though some damage to property was reported.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun had departed its home port in Norfolk, Virginia, on February 6 for a scheduled mission. The fast combat support ship USNS Supply was already operating in the Caribbean at the time.

U.S. Southern Command did not disclose the cause of the collision, stating that the incident remains under investigation.

The precise location of the collision between the Arleigh Burke–class destroyer USS Truxtun and the fast combat support ship USNS Supply has not been publicly confirmed.
