Digital Health Assistant of MyHealthApp officially presented

The Health Minister stressed the importance of the initiative as a step that "takes health forward" - He called on citizens to download the app

Newsroom December 11 12:22

A new era for citizen health began today, with the official launch of the Digital Assistant app MyHealthApp (Citizens’ Personal Health Assistant). The initiative, implemented through the close collaboration of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Digital Governance and EDIKA, aspires to make access to personal health data direct, easy, and secure, focusing on prevention and facilitating everyday life.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiades stressed the importance of the initiative as a step that “takes health forward”. He stressed that the Digital Citizen’s Health Assistant is a “Christmas present” for all Greek users and paves the way for a truly new era in health, with an emphasis on prevention.

“We want to make people’s lives better, easier,” Georgiades said, citing his personal experience of asking the Digital Assistant for his cholesterol levels from his last test, information he received immediately. This shows the immediacy with which citizens can retrieve data such as test results, prescribed drugs, diagnoses, but also see their pending referrals for preventive examinations, even booking appointments immediately, Georgiadis stressed.

The minister urged all citizens to download the MyHealthApp application and concluded: “The MyHealthApp Digital Assistant is now available and will unite all health services. Everything in a citizen’s digital record is practically accessible and searchable through the Assistant, saving time and effort. The app is designed to be user-friendly, with simple language and supports voice commands. The philosophy is clear: digital health apps come to improve the quality of life of citizens, provide better health services, save resources and promote prevention, making access to information simpler than ever before. It’s a multi-tool that moves health forward and puts the digital record in order.”

For his part, the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, stressed the excellent cooperation between the two ministries and EDIKA, which he said “brings fast, direct, effective digital health applications to all Greeks.” He referred to the success of the implementation, noting that EDIKA will now be supervised by both ministries. “On Wednesday in Parliament we will propose the co-supervision of two ministries,” he stressed.

Papastergiou made special reference to data security, noting that the platform has been implemented on Oracle’s infrastructure (OCI) and operates as an “extremely closed, secure model”, ensuring that all data remains within the system and is protected from any fear or doubt about access to it.

He also clarified the philosophy of the Digital Assistant: “The Digital Assistant is not a substitute for the doctor, but acts as a complementary tool to make our lives easier.” He stressed that the Digital Assistant simply provides information and organises medical history, without being able to give medical advice or replace the doctor’s judgement. He noted that the implementation of the Digital Assistant has also been preceded by the implementation of the Digital Assistant for doctors, so that they too can have direct access to their patients’ data for faster and more effective diagnosis and consultation.

Papastergiou referred to several functions and information that can be retrieved through the Digital Assistant of the MyHealthApp application, while clarifying that the file is constantly being enriched.

Some of this information provided by the Digital Citizen Health Assistant is Vaccine History, Diagnoses, Child-Protected Member Diagnoses, Prescribed Medications, Pharmacies, Test Results, and Scheduled Tests. He clarified that it provides medical advice, stressing that the app acts as a smart tool to search and organize the citizen’s personal medical record, providing instant access to a wealth of health information.

Niki Tsuma, chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of IDIKA, praised the cooperation between the institutions, stressing that this is “an excellent example of two institutions working together in the digital sector”. She underlined the basic principle behind these digital applications: “IT is not an end in itself, but serves the citizen by providing systems that facilitate access to information.”

Tsuma noted that the MyHealthApp application is constantly being enriched, making the health record more comprehensive. Regarding the content of tests, she explained that while results are readily available through the Digital Assistant, the imaging itself (e.g., MRIs) can be searched through the health record web application due to the large amount of data. He stressed that “AI is not something to be feared. AI, when applied correctly, with the right technical procedures and legally, gives the results we all expect.”
