A new spark at King George Hotel’s Lobby Bar

A new hotspot crafted for lovers of beautiful moments

Newsroom November 26 07:37

Some buildings don’t just decorate the heart of Athens — they elevate it with a timeless sense of luxury and refined beauty. One such landmark is the cosmopolitan King George Hotel. And now, a stylish new addition inside this historic space is set to redefine where Athenians meet and mingle.

We had the pleasure of visiting the aristocratic George, The Lobby Bar during its opening days—and our verdict? This is definitely the place to be, from early morning coffee to late-night cocktails. Effortlessly elegant yet buzzing with modern energy, this spot promises to become Athens’ new go-to social hub.

Stepping into this all-day bar, right next to the hotel’s lobby, you immediately sense something special. The atmosphere exudes natural sophistication and subtle charm. Designed by the acclaimed Goddard Littlefair studio, the space masterfully blends the hotel’s neoclassical architecture with sleek, contemporary lines. The walls showcase art that bridges past and present — from legendary Greek painters Yannis Moralis and Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas to rising stars like Peggy Kliafa and Philippos Theodoridis.

We settled into one of the brightest tables and started our day with warm coffee and breakfast. The aroma of freshly baked bread comes straight from the hotel’s own bakery. Bread, butter, and honey — a childhood memory perfectly recreated. The honey is sourced from the hotel’s “adopted” beehives in Kerkini, and the butter comes from cows raised on high-nutrition feed in Deskati, Grevena. These thoughtful details reveal the team’s philosophy: authenticity, sustainability, and respect for Greek products.

The menu, curated by Michelin-starred chefs Asterios Koustoudis and Nikos Leivadias, is smartly simple and bursting with character—from breakfast and brunch to lunch and inventive bar bites for the evening.

But George, The Lobby Bar isn’t just about daytime delights. When night falls, the experience steps up as specialty cocktails take center stage. As the lights dim, the bar becomes the star. Premium gin, tequila, and more pair perfectly with creative snacks like shrimp tempura bao, lobster mac & cheese, and beef tartare éclair. Adding to the elegant vibe are exquisite French Ecaille crème porcelain and the stylish uniforms by Zeus + Dione, creating an unmistakably chic atmosphere.

This lobby bar captures the most refined side of today’s Athens — welcoming, creative, infused with Greek soul and a cosmopolitan spirit. It’s a place to feel the warmth of meeting friends, sharing stories, having deep or light-hearted conversations, and planning future gatherings.
