Artificial Intelligence speaks Greek: KIEFER unveils the first large language model (LLM) in Greek

Sophea AI is a comprehensive productive AI suite for general applications, robotics, and image and video generation – including a notable interaction between Prime Minister Mitsotakis and the company’s humanoid robot

Newsroom November 25 05:47

At the 4th GenAI Summit, held under the auspices of the Qatar Foundation, KIEFER and Sophea AI showcased a visionary approach combining digital sovereignty, sustainable energy, and robotics innovation.

The KIEFER Group is transforming into an AI Factory and energy market leader, focusing on the strategic convergence of energy, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

Sophea AI, the first large language model (LLM) developed entirely in Greek, delivers digital sovereignty across three key pillars: Data, Linguistic, and Technological sovereignty.

Committed to Sustainable AI, KIEFER operates data centers powered 100% by renewable energy sources and is developing humanoid robots for diverse applications.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ interaction with the humanoid robot Groku highlighted political leadership’s strong interest in Greek innovation in AI and robotics.

A Holistic Vision for Digital Sovereignty

At the GenAI Summit, the leading AI conference in Southeast Europe, KIEFER and Sophea AI presented a comprehensive vision uniting digital sovereignty, sustainable energy, and cutting-edge robotics.

Christos Petrocheilos, CEO of KIEFER, emphasized the company’s evolution from a pioneer in renewable energy and construction to an AI Factory and energy market leader.

Central to this strategy is the creation of Artificial Intelligence Data Centers (AIDC), aiming to establish Greece’s first DGX SuperPOD, securing world-class computing power.

Additionally, KIEFER commits to sustainable AI by powering its data centers exclusively with renewable energy, setting new standards for AI sustainability.

A strategic partnership with Unitree Robotics advances the development of humanoid and autonomous robots (models G1, H1, R1) for applications in construction, maintenance, and surveillance, marking a transition to Physical AI. This was underscored by the appearance of the humanoid robot G1 on the keynote stage.

Live Demo: Digital Sovereignty in Action with Sophea AI

Themistoklis Nikolis, Head of AI, demonstrated Sophea AI live—the first large language model fully developed and trained in Greek.

Sophea AI addresses the “Greek-Language AI Gap,” offering digital sovereignty on three fronts:

  • Data Sovereignty: Ensuring data remains within Greece/EU, complying with GDPR and AI Act.
  • Linguistic Sovereignty: Training on a massive, high-quality Greek text corpus.
  • Technological Sovereignty: Full control over the model and infrastructure (powered by NVIDIA B200).

The Sophea AI Model Family

Sophea AI is not a single model but a full suite of productive AI tools.

At its core is Sophea-k2 (80B MoE), optimized for deep reasoning and mathematics, excelling in Greek benchmarks like Medical MCOA (score: 83.72).

The suite also includes Sophea-w1 & w2 for general and multimodal use, Sophea-research (Dee), a 30-billion parameter deep agent capable of long-term information retrieval, and content creation tools Sophea-i1 & i2 / v1 for image and video generation.

The platform features a complete voice stack (Sophea-asr & tts) for authentic Greek speech synthesis and recognition.

Robotics Presence and Impressions

Beyond presentations, KIEFER and Sophea AI captivated attendees with their robotic technologies.

A highlight was Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ interaction with the humanoid robot Groku, underscoring political support for Greek AI and robotics innovation.

Visitors also experienced the humanoid robot Groku firsthand and the four-legged robot Go2, showcasing KIEFER’s capabilities in mobile robotics for industrial and energy applications.
