Strong bad weather from tomorrow with showers and storms – Which areas are at risk of flooding

Meteorologists warn of dangerous phenomena with heavy rainfall until Saturday and increased risk of flooding

Newsroom November 24 11:57

A new wave of bad weather is expected to hit most areas of Greece, according to meteorologists George Tsatrafillias and Klearchos Marousakis.

The main features of the bad weather will be rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, which seem to occur from tomorrow, Tuesday.

In particular, in a post on social media, the meteorologist, George Tsatrafyllias, spoke of intense bad weather of type “P”.

“This time, except for western Greece, the whole country will be affected, with the phenomena having greater intensity and duration mainly in the west, the north, the northern and eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese (type “P” weather).

In these areas it is possible that more than 150 tons of water per acre (150mm) may fall in 3-4 days.

The rains will essentially start on Tuesday in the west and gradually from Wednesday night to Saturday will mainly affect the above areas.

The prevailing winds will be southerly which will keep the temperature high and keep the snow at high altitudes (1600m).

On Friday (from dawn) the rains will be particularly intense in Attica as well.

For the rest of December, December is expected to kick off with mild weather.”

Coution also from Marousakis – Rains and storms mainly in coastal areas

For his part, OPEN’s meteorologist, Klearhos Marousakis, warns of a dangerous week, as from tomorrow, Tuesday, western Greece will again be in the “red” in terms of severe weather. Especially the northwestern part of the country will receive significant rainfall and thunderstorms, especially in marine and coastal areas.

According to Marousakis, on Wednesday the weather pattern will remain unchanged, with the same areas continuing to experience rain and thunderstorms. In addition, other areas of the country are expected to be affected, especially the southern maritime parts.

On Thursday, the deterioration of the weather will be generalised, with already aggravated areas again at the center of the bad weather. The weatherman says a large volume of water will fall in areas that have already suffered flooding, intensifying the problems.

Marousakis explains that the frequent alternation of intense weather events does not allow the ground to absorb the volume of water, increasing the risk of flooding and damage. This period is characterized by successive bad weather, causing serious problems in western and northwestern Greece.
